Your generous support of and participation in Spark Hope benefitted the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA www.curefa.org). FARA is the premier research organization in the fight to cure FA. Their efforts have sparked hope for FA patients across the world and their support has helped families through the difficult process of learning about FA and managing its many symptoms.
We are in a really exciting time when medical researchers are drawing closer and closer to finding both a cure and a treatment. Your support is vital to helping them do their work.
FA is a degenerative disease that causes irreversible damage. The range of symptoms among FA patients is broad. Those of you who know me have seen my progression over many years from walking to a using a walker to using a wheelchair. But I am among the lucky FA patients. Children as young as six face far more severe and rapidly advancing symptoms which include a rapid loss of vision, speech, and mobility. Many FA patients also battle diabetes and heart disease. The enlarged heart wall brought on by FA kills young FA patients. We, the patients, and our families need your help.
While there is currently no cure or treatment for FA, the future holds promise. With financial support from people like you we can slow, reverse and cure FA. Because of you, we can hope for a future free of FA. If you came to our cocktail party, thank you for sparking our hope.
